Going to the Beach in Hell of Sand

Hello User, Meet Hell of Sand

Hell of Sand is a sandbox game where you are given a set of tools to play with. There is no real point to the game, no winning, or losing. It is a creativity game where you decide how to play.

There are four spouts at the top of the window that are naturally there. You can determine how much these spouts output by clicking the name on the bottom right hand of the screen. The first spout is sand, then water, salt, and finally oil. The spouts can be opened at levels zero through five, five being the largest and zero shutting off the valve.

Also, at the bottom of the screen are the tool selects. The tools are as follows: eraser, concrete, C4, gunpowder, napalm, nitro, well, spout, water, plant, oil, salt, sand, torch, wax, wall, and fire. The eraser erases everything by just pointing and clicking. Concrete is a form of wall, however, you have to give it time to dry or set for it to become stationary otherwise it falls like sand.

C4 is an unreliable explosion source. You can put the same amount of C4 in many different places and it will change the explosion output at three different levels. A C4 explosion is perfectly circular. Gunpowder is another explosive. It falls like sand unless supported by another substance. When lit it lights up like a sparkler and falls eating at whatever is there. When lit napalm eats at what is around it in an imperfect magnification of how it was set. It is also necessary to support napalm. The most spectacular of the explosives is the sand like substance nitro. When lit it explodes violently and leaves branches where a spark has risen then fallen sharply. The major explosion radius is predictable, however, the arms of the explosion vary from explosion to explosion.

The well is a stationary object that produces oil. A spout is much the same but it produces water and can be made to look like a rain cloud. The torch is a stationary object that produces fire. It cannot be put out unless an explosion erases it. Wall is a stationary object, unlike concrete it does not have to dry. It is not flamable.

Water can put out fire, grow plants, and mix with salt. Unless it is mixed with salt, when water is touched by plant or versa the water will turn into plant material. Water will also rise to the top of oil. Oil is highly flamable. Salt is not flamable and can mix with water. Sand is not flamable. Plant material stays where it is put and can change water into plant material. It burns faster than wax. Wax is a stationary object that burns at a slow rate. When burned pieces of wax will fall.

Another tool in Hell of Sand is the size of the pen. You can click, on the bottom right hand corner, the pen size and choose between sizes one, two, four, eight, sixteen, twenty four, and thirty two. One is as small as the end of your mouse and thirty two is quite a bit larger.

All It Needs is a Little Water...

    Setup
  1. First, turn off all natural spouts.
  2. Select the pen size "32", then select "wall". Cover the entire window with the wall.
  3. Select the eraser and put five holes in the wall according to Figure 1.
  4. Select the pen size "4" and connect the holes as shown in Figure 1.
  5. Select the pen size "1", then select the object "plant". Draw lines from the holes as shown in Figure 1.
  6. Select "torch" and place three torches as shown in Figure 1.
  7. Change the pen size to "4" and choose "spout". Draw a line across the top of the window as shown in Figure 1.
  8. Select "gunpowder" and, while being careful not to touch the torch, fill the bottom of the middle hole with gunpowder.
  9. Select "napalm" connecting the left and right plant matter to the spout at the top of the window. Refer to figure one as to its exact placement.
  10. Turn the salt valve to five.
  11. Select the "eraser" and draw a line as shown in Figure 1. It should fill with salt and water.
  12. Change your pen size to "8". Select "C4" and place it at end of your topmost plant piece connecting it to the end of the salt water filled hole.
  13. Change your pen size to "32" and put some C4 at the end of the bottommost plant material.

    Set Off
  1. Change your pen size to "2". Select your eraser tool and erase the wall dividing the spout at the top of the page and the two holes at the top of the page. Refer to Figure 2 for specificities.
  2. Look at Figure 2. This is what your window should look like. The C4 explosion radii may vary but other than that it should look the same. Another difference between my result and your result is the plant matter. Your plant matter may be all gone which is to be expected, mine just didn't burn all the way.

Going to the Beach in Hell of Sand

    Setup
  1. First change the pen size to "1", then select wall and draw a basin for your beach as seen in Figure 3.
  2. Read the next two steps before attempting as it is time sensitive for it to look right. Change your pen size to "4" and select "sand". Draw your pen across the window twice so it creates two layers of sand. Select "nitro" and create one layer of nitro. Do one layer of "salt". Do not wait for any of the layers to settle before going to the next layer.
  3. Change your pen size to "32", select "water", and fill as much of the basin as possible with water.
  4. Turn your salt valve on "5". Wait for the water to mix completely with the salt. If you don't want to wait change your pen size to "16", select salt and layer salt on top of the water until it is completely mixed.
  5. After the salt and water is mixed, select the eraser tool and erase the excess salt and water. Be sure to turn off the salt valve and only erase salt and water that is above your highest part of the basin.
  6. Change your pen size to "1" and select wax. Draw a boat on top of the water as seen in Figure 3.
  7. Select "well" and put three wells in the boats at the topmost places.
  8. Once the boat is full of oil select "wax" again and draw the two windows.
  9. You can use napalm, nitro, or plant material to draw fish, shells, or other sea life in the water. Note: DO NOT ERASE. It will mix what you have in your basin and mess it up.
